Clifton Community Library
Board of Trustees Minutes
August 17, 2021

Present: Nicole Curry, Don Lashomb, Kathy Gill, JoAnn Young, Director Sandra Griffin, Heather Nichols, Marilyn Zimber, Julie Lanphear.
Absent: President Cindy Whitmore.
The meeting was held in the Pavilion and called to order at 6:05 pm by Vice President Nicole Curry.

Public Comment:
None.

Friends of the Library Report:
Marilyn says the Friends had a very successful book sale and will probably have another (will be discussed on Friday meeting). Art show was also very successful and raised a lot of money for scholarships.

Correspondence/Communications:
We have received two additional donations ($30 and $80) for the poker paddle. Sandy has written thank-you notes.

Minutes of the previous meeting are approved: Motion by Kathy, seconded by Don.

Financial Report is accepted.

Report of the Library Director was accepted.

Old Business
We sold 25 signs and have bought 50 more. The CL50 maps are also selling well.
Many patrons lately: 24 people today, a dozen before 10:30am yesterday.

Pandemic response update: We’ve gone back to masking even for vaccinated patrons. St. Lawrence County is “red” now according to the CDC.
In June and July, unique visitors to our website ranged from 20 to 80 per day.

New Business
We plan for our directorship to eventually transition from Sandy to Heather—both are in agreement on this. Sandy would still do certain tasks that she likes doing, such as the Bargain Hunter ad.
We have to be open 20 hours per week, but how can we be more fiscally responsible with our hours in the winter? JoAnn says we could try to track how many 12-month patrons use the library vs. how many patrons are seasonal. Sandy says possibly we could look back on Sersi and
see if we can get info that way.
In terms of paying our librarians, due to the pandemic, we are well under projected percentages for hours expended so far this year.
We will need to do a budget next month (due September 20).
Julie says there’s a bunch of stuff (two bins) in the dungeon that belongs to the library. Marilyn says the library and the town should think about how we want to use the space downstairs, because things go down to the dungeon and never come out (ex. nativity scene and puppet
theater).
The copier is not working (again). It would cost $1,100 for a new copier/printer: Motion JoAnn, seconded by Kathy.
The adult and teen graphic novel sections have been separated.
JoAnn wonders if director has to be living in town of Clifton. We don’t think so.
Sandy will need to have knee surgery in the near future and will be going to Maine in late September. She will be taking her vacation weeks during those times.
No meeting in October.

Next monthly meeting: Tuesday, September 21, 2021 at 6:00 pm.

Meeting was adjourned at 6:47 pm. Motion by Don, seconded by Cathy.
