Clifton Community Library
Board of Trustees Minutes
June 21, 2022
Present: President Cindy Whitmore, Nicole Curry, Don Lashomb, Kathy Gill, Arlene Davis, Paul Gehrig, Director Heather Nichols, Marilyn Zimber, Julie Lanphear, .
Absent: Rachel Graham, JoAnn Young.
The meeting was held in the Community Room and called to order at 6:03 pm by President Cindy Whitmore.
Julie says the recent promotion of ebooks has been a good idea. Heather says people have come in to sign up for library cards because of the ebook promotions.
Julie says the beach will be open five days; the town could only find two lifeguards to share duties.
Friends of the Library Report:
The Art Show gave the library a $500 check. The Friends are looking forward to the concerts this summer and they thank the library for paying for half of the Nelson Brothers Band performance. The 10th Mountain Division band will perform on July 24th.
We’ve received our Damoth Fund money for the year.
Various former patrons have been contacting us recently and are using our services again.
Minutes of the previous meeting are approved: Motion by Nicole, seconded by Don.
Financial Report is accepted.
Report of the Library Director was accepted.
Pandemic response update: No real changes.
St. Lawrence County Office of the Aging visited and gave a presentation this past Saturday; it was well-attended (10 people including presenters) and they had ideas for what to do to serve senior citizens in our area. When they return next time they will explain their legal aid program, and they may also visit the senior citizens home in Star Lake. They may also start a meals on wheels program for our area. They will partner with the library going forward. (Paul mentions that we might also look into and promote any other free legal advice services in our area.)
The Wild Idea book talk was also a success with about a dozen people attending.
Pavilion curtains have been put out, and the pavilion has been used already.
New trustee update: All three candidates are coming on board as new trustees, Paul Gehrig will become a non-voting trustee until another trustee leaves.
Overdrive books are being checked out more often. Heather is also promoting the Libby app.
The pastor from the Childwold Church visited and got a library card, and Heather sent library promo materials back.
New Storywalk is out on the back lawn. Heather is looking into making Storywalks that incorporate old (copyright-free) poetry.
Facebooks advertising seems to be working.
We are looking into holding movies outside this summer. When the Friends hosted movies, they were on Wednesday nights.
We found a Winslow Homer reproduction painting in the “dungeon”. Its case says it’s part of an NCLS collection, but NCLS may have gifted it to the library long ago. Heather will email Matt Corey and see if he can find out anything about it. We may put it up in the library or else in the hallway.
The Cranberry Lake Post Office is changing their hours, opening and an hour earlier on all days and closing an hour earlier on weekdays. We will keep our same hours for the library, however. We’ve added an extra hour of service on Wednesday night (6pm-8pm).
Next monthly meeting: Tuesday, July 19, 2022 at 6:00 pm.
Meeting was adjourned at 6:29 pm. Motion by Kathy, seconded by Nicole.
