Old Business
Pandemic response update: Heather has been tracking cases and she feels we can move to optional masks for everyone. NY state has been “open” for a month now and there has not been a surge in cases.
Heather has attended various NCLS conferences via Zoom, usually in the library after work, sometimes at her home.
No snow days were used this year. (Sandy living across the street has helped in this regard.)
There have been more families coming in on Wednesday nights.
Overdrive numbers might be going up because Heather has been teaching people how to use the service.
Yearbooks from CFCS school should be ready for us this week. We will have a complete set.
We have new shelving, assembled by Heather, which looks wonderful. The new layout is ADA compliant—Heather used a measuring tape to measure the space between shelves.
Sandy has been looking into AARP Smart Driving courses but hasn’t found anyone to come teach one in our area. The course is available online; it takes 6-hours, which can be done over the course of a 30-day period. We may laminate pages to advertise the online learning procedure.
New Business
Heather has drawn up a new Defense of Intellectual Freedom policy, prompted by several book banning’s that have made the news recently. The trustees adopt the policy. Motion by Nicole, seconded by Kathy.
Don may leave the board sooner or later. Either way, we should do an outreach for more trustees, to see what the response is. We could add two additional trustees; we need an odd number. We will place Bargain Hunter ads.
We currently have book drops in the Adirondack Church in Newton Falls (rarely used) and in Coffee Fever (which has not yet opened for the year). We may move the one in the church to a location where it would get more use. Options include the CF Community Center or the Pharmacy. We considered the Senior Citizen housing as a potential location, but Kelly Houle says there’s no interest there.
We are thinking of activities that could get more kids into the library. Cindy suggests contacting the lady from Tupper who did the bead activities.
This year we will do a summer reading program, and will have trivia nights.
Next monthly meeting: Tuesday, April 19, 2022 at 6:00 pm.
Meeting was adjourned at 6:44 pm. Motion by Don, seconded by Kathy. Don Lashomb
