Clifton Community Library
Board of Trustees Minutes
November 17, 2020
Present: President Cindy Whitmore, Nicole Curry, Don Lashomb, Kathy Gill, Library Director Susan (Kate) Kosier, Julie Lanphear, Nickie Nolan.
Absent: Ted Tate.
The meeting was held in the community room and called to order at 6:03 pm by President Cindy Whitmore.
The Lowville Library held a raffle and decided to distribute half of the proceeds to certain other local libraries. We received a check from them for $9.70.
The Wild Center gave us their various discount rates for passes next year. Pricing has changed a bit and we have options. We’ll wait till spring to decide what to do on this.
We received a $50 donation from Mary Jarvis.
Minutes of the previous meeting were approved: Motion by Don, seconded by Nicole.
Financial Report accepted. Motion by Nicole, seconded by Kathy.
Report of the Library Director was accepted.
Officially, aside from rare visitors who knock first and are allowed in only if the librarian allows, we are back to curbside service only. Julie will look into whether or not we could still provide curbside service if building is shut again due to rising COVID concerns.
Sandy is self-quarantining until a COVID test results are back. (11/19 update: she has been cleared, virus-free.)
Helena fell in the library on Friday (tripped on a “six feet” decal) but she is fine.
Regarding town board concern over library budgetary matters going forward, Don and Cindy inform Julie that the library has enough reserve savings to make up any shortfalls, making the school budget idea a non-issue for several years to come. Cindy would like clarification on whether or not the town has to provide enough funds for library payroll, or if this is more like a casual agreement. Don notes that when he became a trustee (Jan 2016) the library had $59k in total assets, and it now has $89k.
There was only Bargain Hunter advertising in one of the last four weeks. We would like weekly advertising, bigger ads, with the library phone number bigger, and hours of operation listed. It’s noted that Kate has posted on Facebook and highlighted new books.
Don would like hard numbers on how many patrons visit and/or how many books are going out.
Due to this being Theresa Ellis’s first month, vouchers are not available yet. They need to be signed and trustees will be informed when they are available soon.
Next monthly meeting: Tuesday, December 15, 2020 at 6:00 pm.
Meeting was adjourned at 6:31 pm. Motion by Don, seconded by Kathy.
