Clifton Community Library

Board of Trustees Minutes

February 8, 2018

Present: President Cindy Whitmore, JoAnn Young, Don Lashomb, Friends of the Library President Marilyn Zimber, Library Director Susan Kosior, Julie Lamphear.

Absent: Diane Nagel, June McWharf.

The meeting was called to order at 6:00 pm by President Cindy Whitmore.

Public Comment: Julie Lanphear said we may need more civil service information for employees. Director also has to do an “AUD” for the state because of our 501C3 status. Someone said that there was no soap in the bathroom, but there was; it was stuck. We don’t need to shred so much old paperwork because the town can burn it. The floor work downstairs could be approved on the 14th. The building will have to be closed while some of the floor work is going on. We also shouldn’t store computers downstairs in the “dungeon”, because computers can go missing down there.

Suggestion box: Two suggestions for “More kids books”.

Minutes of the previous meeting were approved: Motion by Don Lashomb, seconded by JoAnn Young.

Report of the Finance Committee was accepted.

Report of the Library Director was accepted.

Old Business:

Susan has resolved the issue of compliance with minimum wage ($10.40).

New Business:

NCLS Annual Report was accepted.

Library Trustees Association of NY State membership for 2018 is due and we will renew it.

Marilyn offered her resignation, due the end of the month. New people have been interviewed and one has been tentatively hired: Diamond Marshall, a junior at the high school; her training begins on the 24th. Maria Tyman has offered to fill-in some Wednesday nights; she would have to be trained by NCLS.

Nelson Bros. and Jon Foster have been signed up for summer concerts, but we have to double-check a few things and make sure there are no scheduling conflicts. (Update: They were both scheduled for July 28. We will try to reschedule one of them.)

We haven’t heard back from Broch Gonyea, but Cindy will contact him personally.

Yoga lady will be starting in July, Saturdays at 9am. She charges $5 per person per session and will give us 10%.

Cooperative Extension was called but haven’t gotten back to us.

Diane gave Susan the name of an author, Debi Graham-Leard, who may be willing to come and do a program.

Movie (“Loving”) is Saturday at 11am.

Storytime at Coffee Fever has been running Fridays at 9am.

End-of-summer ice cream social for kids will be 1pm-2pm, Saturday, August 25th.

Trustees may need to sign paperwork for the SeaComm CD.

The AARP driving course will take place on June 16th, and again on Sept 12th-13th.

At the fire department meeting Mike Hanley brought up the idea of doing something (probably a plaque) for the Damoth grave, a joint venture between the fire department and library. We tentatively approve of this idea.

There will no longer be a WDT newspaper stand outside the post office, but there will be some copies available at the Stone Manor. We will have a copy.

There is a $500 grant to have someone from NCLS come and teach us how to weed books.

Next monthly meeting: Thursday, April 12, 2018 at 6:00 pm in the Library.

Meeting was adjourned at 7:06 pm. Motion by Don Lashomb, seconded by JoAnn Young.
